A nursing home in West Palm Beach, Florida, was placed on lockdown Monday after a shooting in the complex left two people dead, authorities said.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting occurred at the William P. Hughes Medical Center.
Investigators were interviewing witnesses and the victims, but no one has been arrested.
The nursing home was placed under lockdown after a 911 call was placed to the emergency line at about 3:20 a.m.
Monday, said Lt.
John Carranza of the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Department.
He said authorities received the call about an incident in the facility, which is located in a residential area near the West Palm beach International Airport.
The sheriff’s department and Palm Beach Gardens police have taken over the investigation.
There are no reported injuries.
According to authorities, the shooting began at around 6:45 p.m., when a female patient, who was not immediately identified, called 911, according to the sheriff’s office.
An officer responded and located a male patient who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, the sheriff said.
The officer then spoke with the patient, the department said.
Authorities said the victim, identified as 34-year-old James E. Clark Jr., was transported to a hospital, where he died.
Authorities did not immediately identify the victims.
Palm Beach County Executive Rob Manfred released a statement saying his office was “in communication with local authorities, including the Palm Beaches Police Department and the Palm Springs Police Department, regarding this incident.”
He said he was aware of the incident and was deeply saddened by the loss of life.
