Nursing home resident dies of cancer after three months on life support November 1, 2021 November 1, 2021 admin

A nursing home resident died after three weeks on life-support on Monday, the Ontario government announced.

The death was announced by Minister of Health James Moore in a news release.

The resident, who is in his 60s, had been receiving chemotherapy treatments for non-Hodgkin lymphoma for nearly three months when he went into cardiac arrest and died at the nursing home on the outskirts of Toronto on Sept. 10, said the release.

Moore said the government has ordered a full investigation into the nursing facility’s operations, and that it has launched an investigation into allegations of negligence and safety violations in the care of residents.

The government has requested the assistance of the Ontario Public Health Unit, which is responsible for investigating deaths and health-related issues at nursing homes, and the Ontario Ministry of Health to ensure the safety and well-being of residents at all times.

Moore also said the Ontario Provincial Police will conduct a thorough investigation of the facility’s care.

Moore called on the community to be patient and to support the nursing-home community.
